Design Research in Practice: Civic Engagement in Austin

Written By Hannah Risser-Sperry | Dec 5, 2017

Each year, students at Austin Center for Design immerse themselves in a wicked problem for a 24-week capstone project. They begin by conducting qualitative research and synthesizing data to identify patterns and insights. This research also serves as foundation for further design and development of ideas throughout the rest of the project.

This year, in partnership with the City of Austin Innovation Office, the broad topic of Civic Engagement in Austin has been identified as the area for students to explore. The students have since immersed themselves at city council meetings, community events, shadowing of residents, city stakeholders and service providers.

On Saturday December 16, the students will present their initial findings and we would like to invite the community to join us for the morning.
