In Conversation: Bruno Maag + David Bailey

Written By Hannah Risser-Sperry | Mar 6, 2019

Bruno Maag is the chairman of Dalton Maag, one of the world’s leading typographic studios; David Bailey is Creative Director for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Together they created BBC Reith, now the official type face of the network.

The new typeface provides the visual foundation for the BBC’s transformation from a traditional broadcaster to an online content provider, seen by millions of people not only in the UK, but across the globe. The BBC needed a typographic solution robust enough to withstand the demands of technologically fast-moving digital devices, whilst conveying the emotional qualities that the broadcaster stands for. Bruno Maag and David Bailey will guide the audience through the creation of BBC Reith, sharing insights and opinions.

To honor the current exhibition on multi-script typography, Bruno will also share lessons from years of designing type families that comprise multiple writing systems.
